Comotomo Teether Review

If you're a regular reader of my blog then you will know Ophelia cut her first tooth at just 12 weeks old. She coped pretty well but always wanted to chew on something. Luckily we were sent the Comotomo teether to review. I'll admit I hadn't heard of the company before but I was keen to give the product a try. They also make baby bottles.

It is made from 100% medical grade hygienic silicone which is the safest material to use. It's completely free of toxic materials and free from BPA and PVC.

The teether comes in either blue or orange and has a rather distinct shape. At first I thought it was very odd looking and a bit basic but once Ophelia started using it I soon realised what the shape was trying to mimic. It's designed to replace little tiny fingers. This was great as all Ophelia liked to do was munch on her fingers or worse yet mine.

The shape and size is perfect for little ones. At 12 weeks old she was able to hold onto the teether easily. She was able to grip the handle allowing her to soothe and settle herself without me having to help. I think this is one of the teether's best features. A lot of teether's are over complicated and quite bulky, meaning they are too heavy and too difficult for babies to grip themselves.

The material is lovely and soft making it nice and chewy. It's very flexible so it can be pushed, pulled and bent and still maintain its shape. The teether is silicone all the way around meaning every part of it can be chewed on. It's very gentle against Ophelia's gums.

One of my favourite features is how easily it can be cleaned. It can be placed in a dishwasher or in boiling water to be sterilised. That means less mucking about for me. We have used teether's in the past with Eva that have had soft toys on them and bits of plastic and they have been a bit difficult to clean. This is very simple.

The size of the four prongs is perfect as they are just long enough to reach the back molars but are short enough not to cause any chocking or gagging.

Overall we are really happy with the teether. It's definitely one of the best one's we have used. It amazes me how something so plain and simple in design can be so effective. Ophelia loves using it and finds it easy to grip. I am very pleased that my fingers have been saved from her razor sharp/puppy like teeth.

You can buy the teether from amazon here, Comotomo Teether

Have you heard of the brand before? What teether's have you used?

  3. That looks like a great design, so many teethers are too big and bulky for the little ones to fit in their mouth. This one is so simple and looks cool too.

  24. What a brilliant design - I bet every other teether manufacturer is kicking themselves for not coming up with it themselves. Brings back memories of storing a shelf full of teethers in our fridge!

  28. 12 weeks is so early for a first tooth! My three were all early too, between 17 and 21 weeks when they got their first teeth. We had a fab plastic ring that could go in the freezer and was rally cooling for their gums, but this looks fab. I love the idea that it is mimicking fingers and can get to the further back teeth a lot easier. x
