The Dangerous Book For Grandads Review

We were sent a lovely book called 'The Dangerous Book For Granddads' by Jeremy Hobson to review. I loved the sound of the book and thought it would be a great edition of us to have and then pass on to the girls' granddads to read.

The book is full of ideas on how granddads can get up to mischief with their grandchildren. It's perfect as let's face it, that's exactly what the role of being a grandparent is all about. There are 86 different ideas including many pastimes from years ago.

The book is presented as a scrapbook which I think is a beautiful touch. I love the retro feel to the book which takes readers on a nostalgic journey. I'm probably too young to remember some of these activities but one of the girls' granddads had a great time reminiscing about them when he read the book with us.

He particularly enjoyed the section on carving and whittling with a penknife. He always does things like this and in fact made some centrepieces from wood for my sister in laws wedding.

My favourite part of the book is the section on star-gazing. I don't remember doing this with my granddad but I regularly did this as a child with my dad. I had a wonderful fascination with space and still do to this day. We would regularly gaze at the night sky with our naked eye or with a telescope. I remember telling him that I wanted to be an astronaut and he would encourage my enthusiasm. We have a telescope at home so this is a past time I am passing on to my own children.

My husband loved this book. He partook in most of these activities with his dad when he was younger. He especially enjoyed the part about building tree houses.

Overall, this book is great. I think in this day and age with all the tv and media that surrounds us, we get lost in it and forget to go back to basics and the outdoors. This book is perfect for not just granddads but all grandparents and parents alike. It's a step back in time and a reminder to enjoy the fun in life.
