Get Fabulous Feet in Time For Spring

We all know the importance of looking after ourselves. A healthy diet, exercise, good quality sleep and a good skincare routine amongst others are crucial. However there’s one thing that tends to be overlooked when we think of taking care of ourselves and that’s our feet. Chances are you have a hand cream in your bag and regularly moisturise your hands and nails, but when was the last time you pampered your feet? When they’re trapped in shoes and socks all day and all of our weight is places on them when we walk or run, they’re in need of more attention than anywhere else. With warmer sandal weather right around the corner, chances are you want to get them looking their best anyway. Here are a few ways you can care for your feet and get them up to scratch.

Exfoliate and Moisturise
The skin on the bottom of our feet is a little thicker which is normal, however it shouldn’t be leathery or hard. If yours is, it’s time to take action before they crack, bleed and feel painful. Use a pumice stone to buff off hard skin, you can also soak them and slather them in moisturizing foot lotion. One tip is to apply lots of lotion, wrap your feet in cling film and then put socks over the top. Go to bed like this, and by the morning it will be soaked in leaving your feet moisturised.

Get a Massage
Foot massage is beneficial for the entire body, because many long nerves in the body end in the feet. Stimulating these nerves can provide benefits to lots of areas of the body. It’s relaxing and releases endorphins meaning it makes you feel good, and if you’re on your feet all day it can relax the tense muscles of the feet. You could practice self massage techniques, rope in a loved one or go to a spa for a treatment.

Wear Suitable Shoes

Sky high stilettos might make you feel tall and gorgeous and look killer, but they’re not doing your feet any favours. It’s not to say you should ditch all of your favourite shoes, but do wear them for occasions where you won’t be walking or dancing all night. They’re much better suited for a meal out than a night on the dancefloor! Shoes that offer good arch support and are cushioned are crucial for people who work on their feet all day, alternatively you could add something like Biopods insoles to them for extra comfort and support. The wrong footwear can cause corns and calluses, as well as neck and back strain from the way they cause you to walk.

Get a Pedicure
As well as looking nice, keeping your nails trimmed and healthy is important for overall foot health. Give them a trim, file them and paint them with your favourite nail polish. You could even wax your toes too, this isn’t overly painful and keeps your feet looking their best when you get your sandals out!

  1. Ahhh I could service do with a massage right now and more tired and sore pregnant feet! I've always used that trick of applying moisturiser and then socks and sleeping so that it all soaks in really well! I'll have to look into those insoles, working in a primary school my feet definitely feel it after a work day so maybe they'll help!
